Art + Interiors: Northwest Style

Every once in a while, I get really proud to be a Northwesterner. And this past weekend, while checking out Flatstock 2011, an annual rock poster show at Bumbershoot I had one of those moments. Printmaking is in my artistic roots and seeing so many talented print artists in one place, along with their amazing music posters, I was blown away. If you ever get chance to see the show, I highly recommend it. And until then, I've picked just a few of my favorites, including this green Seattle-inspired one that is now hanging in my dining room...

And as our kitchen is next on the list of spaces to design, I've started thinking about how to capture that Northwest style. It is organic modern meets industrial chic, always with a quirky edge and sense of humor...

I've been seriously coveting the grass green Eames chair lately and was so heartbroken to find out they are currently not producing any more of the fiberglass versions. I'm on the lookout for a pair for our office so if you happen to spot them at a reasonable price, please let me know! Oh and Happy Tuesday everyone, Enjoy!

My Daylight 4.25.11

Happy Monday readers! Well the grey skies are back for now but I soaked up enough of the sunshine this weekend to last a little while, and I spent some time soaking up the inspiration of other Seattle creatives as well...
I loved this window display in dowtown Nordstroms, a chair project connecting 10 artists and 10 interior designers, I'm especially fond of the one with the super high back.
I finally got a chance to see The Head and the Heart live at a free show at Queen Anne's Easy Street Records. They were absolutely amazing live and have so much energy and presence on stage. And don't worry they'll be back this weekend for a couple shows too in case you missed them!
And finally the Fremont Market is the perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday and I was blown away at all the vintage finds and crafty artisans...

I found this stunning crystal collection from artisan Buddy Austin and could hardly pick just one and Tuesday Shop's wide selection of gorgeous graphic scarves didn't make narrowing things down very easy either....
I hope you all got a bit of Vitamin D this weekend and a lot of inspiration, what was your weekend highlight?? Cheers to a new week..Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Cali to the Northwest [William Wendt]

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had fun celebrating and are excited as I am to take on a brand new year. As I begin this new chapter of my life back here in Seattle I realize how at home I feel among snow capped mountains, grassy parks and ever-changing trees. And ironically enough I'm looking to the "Dean of the California Artists", William Wendt today for my inspiration. His works show the richest parts of California and those that would fit just as seamlessly into the landscapes of the Northwest.
We've been lucky enough to have sunshine and blue skies here lately (though it is freezing) and I'm learning to take the best of what my time in California taught me and fuse it with my new found perspective of the Northwest. Wendt's greyed out trees and cloud spotted skies seem like the perfect representation. I love the rough and gestural landscapes capturing sun-soaked weathered trees curving around shaded hills.  They are not about a perfect day, or a perfectly manicured scene but the paintings feel incredibly warm, welcoming and open.

As you know I love infusing nature into my interiors whether it be through the palette, the textures or the materials and then adding a bit of glamour for the unexpected. This space does just that. The greens and browns anchor the space while a bronze brushed accent pillow and a mirrored chest keep it from feeling too granola. Earthy Chic is what I like to call it, Enjoy!
