Happy Friday readers! Last weekend i went to Seattle's Folk Life festival and saw so many different folk artists ranging in age and variety. Among the amazing acts i saw on the lawn and in venues, one that really stuck out at me was Sassparilla, i think they summed up the Folk Life Festival sound. In their band they have a washboard, harmonica and custom made base player. I am playing their song Dagger which i really loved from their set. This band is from Portland so don't worry if you missed Folklife, they aren't too far away. Other bands i was fortunate enough to see were the Jocelyn Pettit Band, Atlas Alas and an adorable 4 piece middle school band called the Rivals. The festival did not only have tons of bands but also food, story telling and circus acts. Folklife is one of the most interesting places to people watch. The main look was the nomadic look. In some of my pictures you can see what i mean. Have fun browsing my pictures and maybe next year you will see me playing my fiddle there!

Ladybird: 'Lucidity' by Tame Impala
hello readers, I have picked Tame Impala for my song of the week! They are an amazing band from Australia and Lucidity is one of my favorite songs of theirs, although I enjoy the entire album thoroughly. I was lucky enough to see them play at Neumos in Seattle this year and they put on a fantastic show, I highly recommend going if they are in your town. Their songs conjure the vibe of the sixties and seventies psychedelic feel, printed pants, braided hair and of course drugs. Please enjoy

Ladybird: 'Madagascar' by Lake
So often I find bands from all over the country but my dear Seattle is a mecca for up and coming bands. Recently I came across the band Lake which I have heard before but their album Let's Build a Roof has a distinct bosa nova sound which is unlike anything I have heard lately. They are currently signed to K records out of Olympia Washington. "Madagascar" is one of my favorite songs that has a sultry beat and calming lyrics. Please enjoy their own blog http://laketheband.blogspot.com/ and check out their upcoming show at the Tractor Tavern on May 15th! While you are there also check out the Field House where you can get some northwest garb!

Ladybird: 1, 2, 3, -Riding Coach
Hi readers, sorry I have not posted in a while. The lack of posts is not because there is a lack of musical inspiration out there, actually I have found some amazing stuff recently. The song I am posting today is by the Duo 1, 2, 3, you can say that one comma two comma three comma. The song I picked is called Riding Coach, sorry they do not have any videos out yet. I had the grand idea of trying to make a video myself but I know that will not happen anytime soon, so to not leave you any longer w/out amazing tunes. 1, 2, 3 is a Pittsburgh band who will definitely be making a statement. This song gets me swaying and I have to say I have listened to this more than twice on repeat. Enjoy

A perfect soundtrack for a few things the gorgeous photography of Harper Smith is reminding me to be thankful for today...

Ladybird: Ducktails-Hamilton Road
Ducktails, not the show we watched when we were kids but a new band out of Jersey. This is a solo project by Matt Mondanile who is also in Real Estate (just saw them w/ the deerhunter show). Who would have thought that a wonderful garage pop band would come out of jersey?!Well this song just calms my soul and makes me think of sitting on a tree branch in the summer in the park. The song is Hamilton Road, sorry there wasn't a good video but the music is visual enough. Enjoy

Ladybird: Lord Huron-The Stranger
For those of you in the midwest, this is a tribute to you and your winter wonderland. As a northwesterner we do not get blizzards or snow storms but once a year and our world shuts down, but i do feel a bit jealous that you get to make snow angels more than two days a year. stay safe, keep warm and enjoy this tribute to you!
Lord Huron is a new band out of Los Angles CA and their EP is wonderful. This beautiful video was shot in Michigan and has more of the feel of a movie than a music video. Lord Huron sounds like the music in my dreams, take a peek!
