Ladybird: 'Dagger' by Sassparilla

Happy Friday readers! Last weekend i went to Seattle's Folk Life festival and saw so many different folk artists ranging in age and variety. Among the amazing acts i saw on the lawn and in venues, one that really stuck out at me was Sassparilla, i think they summed up the Folk Life Festival sound. In their band they have a washboard, harmonica and custom made base player. I am playing their song Dagger which i really loved from their set. This band is from Portland so don't worry if you missed Folklife, they aren't too far away. Other bands i was fortunate enough to see were the Jocelyn Pettit Band, Atlas Alas and an adorable 4 piece middle school band called the Rivals. The festival did not only have tons of bands but also food, story telling and circus acts. Folklife is one of the most interesting places to people watch. The main look was the nomadic look. In some of my pictures you can see what i mean. Have fun browsing my pictures and maybe next year you will see me playing my fiddle there!

Ladybird: 1, 2, 3, -Riding Coach

Hi readers, sorry I have not posted in a while. The lack of posts is not because there is a lack of musical inspiration out there, actually I have found some amazing stuff recently. The song I am posting today is by the Duo 1, 2, 3, you can say that one comma two comma three comma. The song I picked is called Riding Coach, sorry they do not have any videos out yet. I had the grand idea of trying to make a video myself but I know that will not happen anytime soon, so to not leave you any longer w/out amazing tunes. 1, 2, 3 is a Pittsburgh band who will definitely be making a statement. This song gets me swaying and I have to say I have listened to this more than twice on repeat. Enjoy

Ladybird: Ducktails-Hamilton Road

Ducktails, not the show we watched when we were kids but a new band out of Jersey. This is a solo project by Matt Mondanile who is also in Real Estate (just saw them w/ the deerhunter show). Who would have thought that a wonderful garage pop band would come out of jersey?!Well this song just calms my soul and makes me think of sitting on a tree branch in the summer in the park. The song is Hamilton Road, sorry there wasn't a good video but the music is visual enough. Enjoy

Ladybird: The Head and the Heart-Down in the Valley

Readers, this is a special edition post... Charity from the Head and the Heart, a local Seattle band on the rise has chosen a video from her band's performances this past year. Down in the Valley, I believe was the first song I had heard from The Head and the Heart and immediately fell in love. They should be called 'the Seattle band'; with their folk sound and Ballard style, they are completely Northwest. Their rich sound and soulful lyrics were the perfect anecdote for the grey Seattle day where the Live Concert at the Mural series took place, sponsored by the best radio station on earth KEXP. Enjoy this song and drink an americano while you listen!(and please not from Starbucks)

Ladybird: Lord Huron-The Stranger

For those of you in the midwest, this is a tribute to you and your winter wonderland. As a northwesterner we do not get blizzards or snow storms but once a year and our world shuts down, but i do feel a bit jealous that you get to make snow angels more than two days a year. stay safe, keep warm and enjoy this tribute to you!

Lord Huron is a new band out of Los Angles CA and their EP is wonderful. This beautiful video was shot in Michigan and has more of the feel of a movie than a music video. Lord Huron sounds like the music in my dreams, take a peek!

Ladybird: Warpaint - Undertow

Warpaint is a new to hit mainstream band from LA. What i love about this band is how they have morphed from clean LA look to grungy new york look; they call themselves "progressive brutal" which i have no idea what that means. undertow is one of my favorite songs from this band but the entire cd pulls me in. when watching countless interviews i cannot understand how this band can actually finish a song but maybe the extreem craziness of this band makes them even better. Finally a good girl band, thank you warpaint for bringing the grundge back

I have to admit I love grunge. Being that grunge was born is Seattle the trend has never really left here, an oversized flannel has been a staple in my wardrobe for as long as I can remember..is that bad?

There is just something about that gritty relaxed look that I love, and these works of art give off that same vibe. Of course now that I'm a working girl I don't get to rock this look all that much..Make sure to come back soon for a giveaway with Miss strataflora on Thursday, a guest post from Cristina of FUJI FILES on friday, and the debut of my new series, On the Job with Kelley Moore, see you soon!

Ladybird: Washed Out - Feel It All Around

the calm before the storm; this is not the name of the song but the feeling i get before New Years Eve. I know that fun is going to be had and probably a little too much. The song i chose to relax to is by Washed Out a band out of Georgia. All of his songs are awesome but Feel it All Around is one of my favorites. Sit back, relax and get ready for my next post which will be an ode to New Years!

Ladybird: Hey Guys! It's Christmas Time! Animatic

merry christmas to all who read, and those who cant as well(we do not descriminate on this blog). I of course had to do a holiday post since Sufjan Stevens makes such wonderful Christmas music. This song is not your average gospel Christmas song, oh no! Sufjan brings the jams in this one called, Hey Guys! Its Chrstmas Time! Check out his other holiday songs as well, they are great, especially the one entitled That was the worst Christmas ever. I love Sufjan in all his melodic glory!

Deerhunter- He Would Have Laughed (Unofficial Video)

'he would have laughed' on deerhunter's new album is soothing but also a song you can tap your foot to. the video is not wonderful but the song was a perfect fall day song. looking out my window at the yellow red orange and green, this song was the music video for a falling leaf. so put on some boots pile up the leaves and jump!

The Hundred In The Hands - Tom Tom (This Desert EP out now)

my debut song...this was a hard choice, how do i want people to view me; i pondered this over for hours, then i though screw it! i picked this song b/c i just like it and thats what i will do most days. some are to display a feeling i am having that day but most are just gonna be that simple. i like it. anyway back to the video-the outfits are awesome, aside from the guy in the white jeans but hopefully it was before labor day at least. alright so the deal is i would love your feedback please, this is to be a dialog more than me just putting songs up for you to steal my music, jk ok well thats all i have for the day of oct. 14 2010. hope you enjoy it!     signing off ladybird
