Love it / Live it: Navy Ikat

Good Morning! Thursday happens to be one of my favorite days of the week, the work week is coming to a close, the weekend is still ahead and it's the one night my man and I actually have off together, so tonight we are headed to the Capitol Hill Art Walk to find some fresh inspiration to bring right back to you! Now I'm wishing Spring would actually get here and I could rock this gorgeous look...

But alas we are still in the dead of Winter it seems here, so instead maybe I'll do some entertaining with this fancy dishware...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Wild for Warhol

"Sometimes the little things you don't think are anything when they're happening turn out to be what marks a whole period of your life."  -Andy Warhol
So as you may have noticed, my blog page ends with some cheeky screen printed images from none other than the Pop Art icon himself, Andy Warhol. Warhol's raw, vibrant prints were a huge inspiration to me while in school learning to silk screen. I truly feel that even in a digital world saturated with computer graphics, the luster of hand printed art is unmatched. Plus, Warhol's work reminds me to take life a little less seriously, be in life's little moments...
Warhol's printing of everyday images was a way to express the manufactured world we had come to live in and show the world that art is everywhere. "Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it." I love the way each layer is printed ever so slightly off alignment from the last and his outrageously brazen color combinations.

Like I said, I'm a flower child at heart but I sure wouldn't mind a trip to the early 80's to hang out with Warhol and Edie Sedgwick in their velvet underground. Luckily there are still plenty of Pop Art inspired furnishings out there to satisfy that urge...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Mental (Color) Blocking [Sam Francis]

Good Morning friends, I hope you had a great weekend! I have to say I've been struggling with some serious artist's block lately. This Sam Francis painting seemed a perfect fit for my current state but I'm taking a cue from his bold hues and fluid brush strokes...

I've let this dreary weather keep me from getting out and about in this creative town long enough. So this week is going to be all about getting out there, outside of my trusty laptop, and finding some fresh inspiration, so stay tuned and Happy Monday!

Ladybird: Dom-'Living in America'

TGIF, today i felt extremely happy to live here in the northwest and it made me think of this uber nationalistic song by Dom called Living in America. Whenever i hear this song it makes me laugh, but i guess what is more sexy than living in America?.... living in France.

Anyway, have a great weekend and hopefully this song can be on your playlist tonight! I have added some pictures of local people from some of my favorite seattle blogs

I want to live in...A Molly Luetkemeyer project

Happy Friday!! Today I'm inspired by Interior Designer Molly Luetkemeyer. I love a woman who doesn't shy away from bold color or pattern and knows how to compose a room like a perfectly executed canvas. I love how she effortlessly combines unexpected palettes and graphic textures while still somehow maintaining a level of simplicity.
Having worked under the phenomenally talented Kelly Wearstler, you can tell she loves to add an element of the unexpected, but she brings her own sophisticated style by holding back from mixing a lot of patterns to really let the individual pieces sing.
I'm usually not one to love a pink room but the vintage rugs and weathered stools create a rustic and well traveled space that feels lusciously feminine at the same time. I hope you all have a beautiful Friday and a weekend packed with inspiration and good company...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Neon Nostalgia

Good Morning! Like I said, things have been unbearably grey around here so this photo from oracle fox was just the jolt of color I needed. I love the over the top neon palette and the layering of patterns. And believe it or not I went through a serious orange phase in 6th grade, right about the same time I painted my nails every night so between that and the friendship bracelets I'm feeling a lovely abundance of nostalgia right about now...

How amazing would this rug be under a sleek grey sofa and a reclaimed wood slab table? It would be a burst of energy every time you enter the room...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Feeling Muddled [Michelle Armas]

Hi friends! I have to admit I was feeling a little blue yesterday. I don't know if it was the dreary weather or my lack of sleep this weekend but some days it is just a little bit harder to keep from spinning into worry mode. My head's been as muddled as this painting but artist Michelle Armas' cool subtle palette makes it somehow calming...

I love the intense pops of turquoise in both the painting and these gorgeous coasters from Anthropologie, we got one as a gift a few weeks ago and I love it so much I am tempted to snag some more as they're only $32 for the set! Here's to a brand new day and a brighter outlook...Enjoy!

D.I.Y. Northwest: House Warming Party

Good morning readers! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Having finally felt ready to show off my pad and desperately wanting to get in some quality time with my favorite people, I hosted a little house warming soiree. As you may remember we recently painted our central wall a deep turquoise with a gold accent and we finally just put up some of the favorites of my man's record collection. To add a little drama to the living room I snagged this black and white Jackson Pollock print and framed it of course in gold....

My closest friends and family warmed the place up, including miss Ladybird herself and we received some amazing house warming gifts as well...

Entertaining expert Kelley Moore gave us the perfect Salt + Pepper shakers by Jonathan Adler. Jake and I not only have a serious affection for birds but we had been on the look out for Salt and pepper shakers for months. And working for Kelley has taught me how to be quite a swell hostess if I do say so myself...

Inspired by the color palette of our pad, my mom and I teamed up to put a personalized spin on the cupcake...

Starting by mixing the colors I wanted, I added white frosting to make the lighter shades of each hue. I'm no baker but the feathery dessert definitely made it feel like a party...

Of course it wouldn't really be a party without a signature cocktail (via Kelley's entertaining wisdom) so we took a stab at mixing one up and it was a huge hit...

The beauty of Sangria is that you can literally wing it with the proportions which is exactly what we did. We made our own minty simple syrup by boiling water and dissolving sugar in it then adding mint leaves. We put all the ingredients in in the above order and let it all soak for a few hours before the guests arrived, when we were ready to serve it up we popped the champagne and added it in. It was the favorite drink of the party and it was so much fun to have fruit to munch on at the end of every glass...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Orange Sherbet [Maoro Bonacino]

Happy Friday friends! I'm looking forward to a weekend full of good company as Jake and I are throwing our first little shindig in the new home. And since working for Kelley Moore I'm becoming quite the entertainer and have a few fun ideas up my sleeve that I am looking forward to sharing with you! In the mean time, in keeping with our summer cravings, I'm digging this sherbet orange right now...

The work by artist Mauro Bonacino is both simple and elegant while being incredibly unexpected. And let's be honest, though he is freaking brilliant in all that he does, I can't help but look at this series as a great D.I.Y. idea. All you need is white paper, spray paint and your favorite flower and you can totally snag this look. Loving the soft orange upholstery of this chair against its classic legs and nail heads too...Enjoy!
