Love it / Live [in] it: Desert Style

Hello! I'm so sorry to say that I'm going to have to just accept that I won't be able to tend to my blog as regularly as I used to or would like to. I've just been so nonstop busy getting into my new gig and traveling every other week, that I just need to cut myself some slack where I can. With that said, I definitely want to continue to share what is inspiring me with all of you when I do get the chance to and want you to know how much I truly appreciate your readership!

Now I have a confession to make: I'm officially into pink. I've never really been a fan of the color for myself, but at Free People it is always a focal point when it comes to display and I have to say I love working with it. It's hard for something to not feel warm, cheery and fresh in hot pink. And I love the bright pop of energy it brings to the current desert style...

Just taking a little mental break to reinvent my dream living room once again. The combo of sky blue and hot pink would definitely combat all our grey Seattle days...Enjoy!

Orange Crushed: Amanda's Manhattan Apartment

Hello!! I haven't even unpacked my bags yet from my whirlwind trip to NYC but I just could not stay away any longer. I got the pleasure of spending some time with an old friend and fellow blogger while in Manhattan and like many of my friends, she wanted my two cents on how to make her living space special. Many of us 20-somethings are renting rooms and aren't able to tear down walls and refinish surfaces to make a space our own, sometimes the paint color isn't even in our control. Such is the case for Amanda, who is sub-letting a charming little orange room near the East Village...
Don't get me wrong, orange is a wonderful statement hue and has actually been proven to be the happiest color of them all, but it definitely presents a challenge when creating a space that will also be calming and peaceful. So I pulled together a look for Amanda that would mesh with the vibrant walls without being too overwhelming, mixing bold accents with textured whites and greys for a little Moroccan getaway fit for a vibrant and vivacious girl about town...

Turquoise sits right across from bright orange on the color wheel, making it a complimentary hue, so pulling it in through some key accents helps to balance out the color in the room and take the volume down a notch. And putting a large screen behind her bed will bring some texture and dimension to the room without taking up any precious real estate. Best of all, any of these pieces will fit seamlessly into whatever color or type of space she lands in next!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, I'm so excited excited to share all the inspiration I gleaned from my trip to the other coast..Enjoy!

Love it/ Live [in] it: Moroccan Mornings [Maiji Fiebig]

Today I'm inspired by the intricately patterned landscapes by artist Maiji Fiebig. This piece is a perfect marriage of some of my favorite elements; geometric patterning and a snow capped mountain scape, and in such a lovely and unexpected color palette, I love the combo of teal and rust...

And how would one ever leave the house with a bath this decadent and decorated?? From the richly saturated tones to the architectural details, it is absolutely to die for. Of course, being the Moroccan home of fashion designer Liza Bruce, I would expect no less...Enjoy!

I want to live in Liza Bruce's Moroccan home...

Today I'm inspired by the layered spaces of fashion designer Liza Bruce's Moroccan home. Every room is saturated with color and overflowing with pattern. Bruce's eye for interiors is just as bold and unapologetic as her fashion sense...

Each space seems to be filled to the brim with stories as tokens of the couple's life and travels create their own little vignettes around every corner...

I love the way so many bold colors are thrown together throughout the home while a fuchsia thread ties each space together. And where they lay their heads to rest, the palette is restrained to a white surfaced room, creating a strong sense of serenity and peacefulness among the beautiful chaos...

Though the color pink has never been my cup of tea, I have to say it is really starting to grow on me, especially when set among such rich hues and textures and given an organic edge.

I love the way Liza Bruce simply takes no prisoners when it comes to color and isn't afraid to mix in an eclectic array of patterns. While most pieces fit their Moroccan setting, motifs from Southeast Asia to Turkey make their appearances as well, giving the overall space a sophisticated and worldly feel. And I certainly wouldn't mind lounging beneath lush green trees on that deep turquoise pool just about any time of day...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Golden Femininity

Happy Monday! As many of you know, Gustav Klimt is one of my all time favorite artists. I've featured his works on here before but I just could not resist bringing his paintings back to translate them into a space. I love the heavy patterning in tonal golds and the juxtaposition between the flattened graphic surfaces and the voluptuous women they cloth. His women stare straight into the viewers eyes exuding a sense of female empowerment. I love that these women are strong and fearless while excessively adorned in gold and textiles, they symbolize women's unique ability to be gorgeous and tough!

A little bit Turkish, a little bit Moroccan and a few golden modern touches and this space is both luxurious and weathered at the same time. Perfect for a cozy sitting room around the fire on these cold winter days, Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Monet and Meditation...

With all the rain we've been having here in California and very little fall,  I've been feeling the world in misty blues, greens and greys. I love the way the rain makes everything around you seemed sort of washed out, it gives you a sense of meditative isolation and with the busy daily grind I've found its important to relish these moments.

Monet's 'Water Lilies paintings' seemed like a perfect fit for this feeling. The impressionist style focused much more on what the artist felt that they saw rather than what they knew was there and the results were gorgeous paintings full of movement and emotion. The depth created by layer upon layer of paint without much emphasis on precision or detail gives the series their meditative quality, and the deep blues and greens offset by the bright water lilies provides the viewer with hope.

The green lucite chair on the deep turquoise vintage rug creates a great juxtaposition of old and new that is evident in Monet's work, especially his later works. He was painting with such experience and rigor and yet opening up the door for the abstract movement of the future. The Moroccan accents under a rich blue chandelier would make this space a perfect little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Enjoy!
