Love it / Live [in] it: Desert Style

Hello! I'm so sorry to say that I'm going to have to just accept that I won't be able to tend to my blog as regularly as I used to or would like to. I've just been so nonstop busy getting into my new gig and traveling every other week, that I just need to cut myself some slack where I can. With that said, I definitely want to continue to share what is inspiring me with all of you when I do get the chance to and want you to know how much I truly appreciate your readership!

Now I have a confession to make: I'm officially into pink. I've never really been a fan of the color for myself, but at Free People it is always a focal point when it comes to display and I have to say I love working with it. It's hard for something to not feel warm, cheery and fresh in hot pink. And I love the bright pop of energy it brings to the current desert style...

Love it / Live it: Pattern Play

Happy Friday everyone! I'm a huge fan of color, and until recently I had very little if any black in my wardrobe or home, but lately I've been loving black and white textures and patterns. Keeping the palette minimal allows for mixing and layering of a variety of influences without feeling too busy. I love the way this editorial from Russian Vogue was styled and the way it feels like it could fit seamlessly into any culture or time period...

This new ottoman from West Elm would go so perfectly in my home I'm tempted to actually get rid of a piece of furniture to make space for it. I'd love to use it in lieu of an end table so it could double as extra seating when guests come over. All it needs is a gold tray on top and it would be a match made in heaven. Love it / Live it: Washed Out

Good morning! I spent the weekend getting caught up on a lot of things I've been putting off and it feels good to be nearing the new year with what feels like a fresh slate. And yes, I finally started my Christmas shopping and I must say, sometimes I forget how much fun it can be to shop for everyone else! And while I know this isn't exactly in keeping with the Holidays, I'm absolutely loving this soft hued, washed out painting by artist Julian Jackson. It reminds me of early Winter mornings running along the beach...

And I'm thinking these glass hurricanes that would make my mantle feel just as calm and light even on the greyest of days, miles and miles from the ocean...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Lise Temple

Today I'm inspired by the abstract landscapes of Australian artist Lise Temple. Needless to say I love her choice of palette, but I also love the juxtaposition between broad and brash brush strokes and the tiny and intricate spacial detailing. It makes for a depth in the work that goes beyond the landscape or the page....

I would never have thought to mix in terracotta with this palette but I think it brings in a beautifully warm contrast to the grey, green and blue that dominates each composition. And there is no better way to bring a color whole heartily into a room than to paint it on the walls. I've been wanting to use this green (#440B-6 Barnyard Grass by BEHR) somewhere in my home for months now, and I think it's time to finally pull the trigger. Art + Interiors: Tonal Blocking [Liz Maxwell]

Two looks that have been high on my radar this year are color blocking and dip-dying. So you can imagine my excitement when I found an artist, Liz Maxwell, whose work combines both looks in tonal shades of blue and green. As subtle as each composition is, there is a strong sense of horizon in each piece, making them incredibly calming and peaceful...

The same way that gazing at the horizon can settle and ground us, pulling in soft horizontal lines into the home can have the same effect on your space. And bolder hued color blocked pieces add in a modern touch. I'm thankful everyday when I get to sea the sun go down over the horizon, it tends to have a way of bringing me back to earth when I'm getting lost in my own head...Enjoy!

Adler Inspiration...

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the official opening of Jonathan Adler's new store in Fashion Island. The event was fabulous, the store is gorgeous and the space was absolutely brimming with inspiration. From the turquoise walls to the quirky sculptures to the fashionable guests it was definitely a night to remember...



I had the chance to snap a photo with the man behind it all with the lovely and inspiring Sabina Vavra of http://www.sabinavavra.com/ whom I've had the pleasure to work for these past 5 months...

And I cannot help but love someone who stays true to their art...

I loved the brilliant colors in poppy prints and patterns juxtaposed against the metallic accents and white on white.

 We also enjoyed the company of fellow designers, Julie of http://www.bellemaison23.com/ and Rick Campos of http://www.christophertracyinteriors.com/. I left feeling uplifted and inspired, Adler's designs leaving me with a sunnier outlook on life. http://www.jonathanadler.com/ enjoy!
