Art + Interiors: Desert Decor

Lately I've been incredibly inspired by the desert. There is something so intriguing to me about the dusty dry heat and the presence of old and new life. And I'm particularly loving the way incorporating antlers and horns into a space can bring that same sensibility into a space. While I'm not a fan of hunting, I love the idea of giving these elements new life through design...

I also love the way designers have been re-purposing this age old decoration in new artistic ways from painted and decorated deer heads to woven antlers. The style fits seamlessly with eclectic and traveled as well as fresh and modern...

How brilliant is the kilm rug cut into the shape of a cow hide? What a wonderful way to get the look without using a real animal's coat. I'll leave you with my favorite modern desert finds from around the web...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Horizontal Calm [Kenneth Noland]

The devastation of last week across the world has put my own little frustrations profoundly into perspective. My heart goes out to all those who have and who continue to suffer right now. On a more personal level, on top of feeling sadness for the events in Japan, I had a stressful week ending with my car getting broken into, nothing in light of the week's events but still frustrating... So welcome to a fresh week, I thought we could all use a little peace and calm this morning and the horizontal art of Kenneth Noland is just that...
Horizontal line is incredibly calming as well as the color blue. Combined with the subdued palettes and understated rhythms, Noland's work is bringing me just the serenity today...

Inspired by Kenneth Noland's work, sleek, modern and fresh, this space would create that sense of peace while still containing enough energy to keep you sharp and witty throughout your day. It is not the kind of space you want to curl up and take a nap in, but the kind to take a deep breath, shift back into perspective and take on your day with a renewed sense of determination...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Golden Femininity

Happy Monday! As many of you know, Gustav Klimt is one of my all time favorite artists. I've featured his works on here before but I just could not resist bringing his paintings back to translate them into a space. I love the heavy patterning in tonal golds and the juxtaposition between the flattened graphic surfaces and the voluptuous women they cloth. His women stare straight into the viewers eyes exuding a sense of female empowerment. I love that these women are strong and fearless while excessively adorned in gold and textiles, they symbolize women's unique ability to be gorgeous and tough!

A little bit Turkish, a little bit Moroccan and a few golden modern touches and this space is both luxurious and weathered at the same time. Perfect for a cozy sitting room around the fire on these cold winter days, Enjoy!

I heart Sacramento; NeoCrocker

This weekend I was able to attend the last of the Crocker Art Museum's fabulous events to celebrate the Neo Crocker. The art museum went through an extensive transformation and my lovely Aunt Linda Farley was there the whole way as one of the Museum's Directors. The Museum is absolutely gorgeous, if you are any where even near the area you simpy MUST check this out! You'll find Historical Californian art, a large and exquisite pottery collection, modern and contemperary works large and small, and SO much more. The event did not dissapoint either. With neon lights, fire dancers, a dance floor surrounded by art and endless ways to be in on the creativity I was in absolute heaven!
I shared only a few of my faves here from the abstract to the aboriginal works to Sacramento natives, there were just too many to choose from! You'll have to check out the Museum yourself to really soak in all the inspiration. And expect plenty of future posts featuring the wide range of talents exhibited! Enjoy!
