Love it / Live it: Texture + Triangles

Happy Friday!!! This gorgeous print by artist Aaron Farley reminded me of the way the bright white mountains looked yesterday against the blue/grey sky. [And it also happens to be one of these affordable pieces of art] I love the juxtaposition between organic texture and geometric depth and all on top of a natural ombre landscape...

Love it / Live it: Making Sunshine

Though Fall is one of my favorite seasons, it doesn't beat the warm carefree spirit of Summer. In a place like Seattle, where a lot of the year can be quite grey, it is important for me to find ways to keep a little bit of Summer year round. Having this painting hanging on my wall would be the perfect fix, the palette and movement seems to exemplify the energy of late Summer turning to Fall...

And a shockingly yellow sideboard? Why not? This would be like a bright ray of sun bolting through a room no matter what time of year it is. Add in some good friends, good music and sangria nights, and you've got Summer around the clock. That's my recipe for sunshine, what's yours??

Love it / Live it: Russell Leng

Everyone needs a little drama now and then right? Well I am currently loving the drama in Russell Leng's New Nature Systems series. The stark contrasts of white and black, the glints of purple and even a shock of orange layer intricately to create an intriguing sense of depth. I get the feeling I'm looking through shattered glass right out into space...

And I have yet to see a piece of furniture as out of this world as this purple faceted sideboard from Boca Do Lobo. Yes it opens like a cabinet and somehow has a flat surface on top for a cocktail or two! So stunning, I would love to place this is in a clean white room and really let it sing...Enjoy!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm loving this silk screen print by artist Kate Banazi. Her work has a great sense of nostalgia while mixing in futuristic vibes and touches of scandal. I love the vintage imagery mixed with vibrant pops of color and overlapping shapes..

These tables from abc home are just as intriguing. The stacking of shapes creates such interesting geometry and the way the warm overlapping hues mix to create a spectrum of shades is absolutely stunning...Enjoy!

Guest Post: Fluid Tranquility [Destiny Womack]

 Hello there!  It’s Amy from strataflora and I’m so excited and honored to be doing a guest post over here at Love the Daylight!  As a fellow art/design/nature enthusiast, I love Laura’s approach to design – fusing all the worlds together for a unique, rich, cultured look.  I live by the same method, soaking up inspiration from my surroundings, whether it is in the form of art, fashion, nature or people.  There are so many beautiful things to take in and appreciate everyday, and I love sharing them with my readers…and now you!




I came across these gorgeous paintings by artist Destiny Womack and promptly fell in love with the vivid colors and unique marbled look.  The dreamy, flowing textures created by the complex layers of color almost remind me of an oil slick on a rainy day.  Her paintings have a rare duality; they are tranquil yet energetic, static yet fluid…it’s a special quality that really draws you in.

Referencing the color palette and dual nature of the paintings plays out very nicely when translated into an interior...I love a combination of sharp, structured pieces mixed in with soft edges, and a variety of textures. The translucent furniture and accessories make a statement, but don’t compete with other elements. Reflective surfaces, like a high-gloss finish or metallic varnish brighten and expand the room (like this attention grabbing abalone shell mirror!)

Art + Interiors: Thinking outside the body [Yves Klein]

Millions can learn to draw and paint, but those that are remembered for decades and decades are those who take risks and think outside of the box, who think conceptually and value the artistic process as much as the end result. It is always encouraging to me to study such artists, it is a reminder to continue to pursue what I believe in and a shot in the arm for my own creativity. Yves Klein is one of these artists.

For Klein, the color blue embodied the freedom of the sky. In 1960 he raised eyebrows with his 'Living Brush' series. Nude models would apply blue paint to their bodies and to the sound of a single note being played by an orchestra and under Klein's instruction, would transfer the paint to the canvas stretched across the floor. Though more than a little quirky, Klein's work represents the fusion of conceptual and performance art with stunning end results.

There is so much energy in these pieces and the thick, saturated blue adds depth that just pulls you in.

I couldn't resist these multi-faceted end tables. Whether you choose one color or spring for all three, it is a great way to add interest and depth, I love the way they reflect the light like oversized diamonds. They're an instant modern twist with a futuristic edge. Enjoy!

One Man's Trash...

Alex Uribe...

Uribe is one of many artists today taking what we throw away and making it into art. I love the re-working of an ordinary or mundane object or material into something beautiful. Here he makes undulating, feminine curves out of corrugated cardboard.

The men of www.graypants.com/ are taking it to another level and making fully functional works of art of both cardboard and scraps of plywood. I serendipitously met these guys in Seattle and was utterly inspired. Their architectural backgrounds give them a unique grasp on structure and space and paired with their never-ending creativity the possibilities here are endless.

I was most impressed when they showed me their prototype for the Slice Chair below. The innovation here is incredible and the chair itself is an ingenious sculpture.

I cannot wait to have a client project where I can use these pieces. The scrap lights are great for such a variety of spaces, I know it won't be long. They add a stripped, industrial feel to a space while also bringing in warmth and texture, two components that rarely seem to go hand in hand.

Truly Organic

In a world where we are obsessed with having the next biggest thing, the newest innovation, constantly throwing away the old to make room for the new, we tend to forget that all we throw away doesn't just go away.
