Jewelry Love: Hanna Reingold

Did I mention I get to work with some crazy talented people? Well miss Hanna Reingold is definitely one of them. She showed her work at last month's Art Show and my friends, we have an uber talented jewelry designer in our midst. Each uniquely hand crafted crystal piece is a work of art in itself and I'm kind of in love. They're a mash up of quartz, leather and vintage findings and they are pure bohemian brilliance...

She made this last piece specially for yours truly and I plan on wearing the thing out. You gotta love a chunky statement piece that somehow goes with everything in your closet. Happy Friday everyone...Enjoy!!

Colored Daylight: Summer Brights

Happy Friday everyone! I have to admit, my relationship with Seattle is on the rocks right now. It always is this time of year, when Summer is happening everywhere else in the country and Seattle is pretending like it's January. It's not awesome. So today I'm willing the sun out with these hot weather hues, a bold and bright palette only fit for a warm Summer day...

now hopefully Seattle will get the memo and follow suit...hope your weekend is bright and full of sunshine, Enjoy!!

Colored Daylight 6.6.12

I love the play on depth and the white washed feeling of this work by artist Christian Hellmich, and this barely there aqua hue really brings the piece to life...

Paired with cognac and raw metallics this Planet Blue cuff is just too good...Enjoy!

Jewelry=Art : &c.

This weekend I attended a geniusly curated event, the preview party for BLANC, a design pop-up shop that featured local designers and a range of their well crafted goods all in Winter white. One item that caught my eye and hasn't left my mind since is this stunning statement necklace from Etcetera Jewelry...

And all of their pieces are just as unique. So while I usually post artwork and jewelry, these pieces of are so gorgeously composed that they are truly works of art themselves...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Beautiful Mud

While I was very much enjoying the unusually dry Fall we were having, as always, the rain has arrived, daylight savings has come and gone, and the leaves of red and orange are turning to a deep dark auburn and mixing on the ground to create mud. But this year I'm trying a whole new outlook and finding the beauty in even the shortest and darkest of days....

This painting by artist Dan Gualdoni captures the dark brown beauty perfectly. I love the way the shadow lines drip in and out of each other creating the sense of a late November day on a deserted shore. And I just can't get enough of architect Frank Gehry's new collection for Tiffany & Co., now I too have something to swoon at in most of my girlfriends' favorite store. With these two pieces looking so gorgeous, it's a lot easier to appreciate the mud collecting outside my window..Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Crystallized Moment

Happy Monday readers! I hope you all had a restful weekend. I'm sure I don't even need to explain why I love this print so much, having had such a long standing love for crystals and agates, but set vertically in this blush background there is an incredibly meditative quality to it that I can't quite put my finger on...

I'm having a reflective morning and these crystals just seemed to fit the bill. I'm thinking a lot about where I've been, the things that have happened in my life, both the good and the bad, and what may lie ahead. It feels like I'm on the precipice of a whole new kind of chapter and I'm both anxious and excited to turn the page. But before I do that, I'm taking a moment to consider the present, and finding peace and calm in today...Enjoy

Love it / Live it: Willem de Kooning

Hello! I am so incredibly be thrilled to be getting on a plane tomorrow with my wonderful father for a much needed little vacay to New York City! I've only been to the famous city once at the age of 13 and it is high time I got back there to see all the art, culture and utter chaos that the city thrives on. I'll be traipsing around the city seeing old friends, eating good food, and seeing every show, gallery and museum I can squeeze in, but there is one thing I simply cannot miss...

'de Kooning: A Retrospective' at New York's Museum of Modern Art is at the top of my list this week while in NYC. Abstract expressionism has been the most influential movement in my personal development as an artist and Willem de Kooning is among the most prolific artists of that time. I've only seen his work in Art History class slides and text books, nothing, I'm sure, compared to being in the presence of a canvas taller than me, layered in contradictions and emotions, set in the most exquisite palettes I have ever seen. I'll be in NY through the weekend and would love any and all suggestions you may have, otherwise, enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Modern Geode [Tabitha Bianca Brown]

These prints combine two of my greatest loves, geometry and geodes. In tonal hues and subtle textures, designer Tabitha Bianca Brown's faceted illustrations are absolutely stunning...

My [Colored] Daylight: 9.16.11

Ah, Friday, so happy you're here! It has been an incredibly busy week and I'm very much looking forward to some time away from the never ending to-do list to enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation with the ones I love. But before I shut down I thought I'd leave you with a few snippets of my current favorite color combo...

I tend to go through phases with color and lately I've been incredibly drawn to all things turquoise. Paired of course with gold, it's sort of been my power duo. What's your current palette? Hope you all have a wonderful weekend filled with inspiration and much, much joy.

Love it / live it: Rock On

Happy [holiday] Monday everyone! I hope that [unlike me] you're enjoying a long and relaxing three day weekend and in the company of good friends and loved ones. Summer has finally hit its stride here in Seattle, now that it is almost Fall, and it is the most gorgeous day outside. Though I have more work to do than I can fathom, I'll be taking frequent breaks to bask in the sunshine...

On another note, our precious little [giant] puppy has been quite sick lately and I'm hoping to channel some of the healing energies of the amethyst today to mend him. We are hoping that our love and sheer determination for helping this little guy will get him on the right track and feeling like his rambunctious self again, but we'll take any positive energy we can get, so please send Phinney your good vibes, and have a wonderful holiday!

Love it / Live it: Golden World

Lately I've been thinking a lot about traveling, which means spending some time gazing at the map, dreaming of adventuring in distant countries. Unfortunately I'm not quite in a position to get away at the moment but I love the idea of using maps as decor, and better yet as adornment...

So while I'm not able to start booking flights just yet, I wouldn't mind having a few decorative reminders on the wall and around my neck of the big wonderful world we're a part of...Enjoy!

Love it/ Live it: Asymmetrical Balance [Victoria Haven]

I'm a routine girl. I function best when my days are well mapped and I can schedule a healthy balance of everything I find important in life. But with this new part-time freelance, part-time job thing, I'm having a little trouble finding that structure. So this week I'm just going to embrace the chaos and find a new kind of balance where although I'm going in a million directions at once, I'm injecting moments into each day to breath, spend time with the ones I love, and enjoy the scenery...

Victoria Haven's geometric illustrations could not be a better fit for my new mantra. Happy Monday everyone..Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Philip Govedare + Agate/Gold Love

Happy Friday everyone! Today I am completely inspired by the fluid and textured paintings of artist Philip Govedare. Reading as photographic areal landscapes, he creates an incredible amount of depth in each piece in soft, vibrant palettes that can't help but draw you in...

And somebody has gone and combined my current obsession, agates, with my everlasting love for gold and over sized jewelry over at BlyDesign on etsy.

There are so many gorgeous hues to choose from, I don't know if I'll be able to choose only one! Hoping you all have a wonderful weekend full of inspiration...Enjoy!

My Daylight 7.28.11

Good morning! Being both a blogger and a graphic designer, I tend to spend quite a bit of time in front of the computer screen, and frankly it can get a bit exhausting. So yesterday I spent a day completely unplugged, getting my hands dirty. Well not so much dirty as blue...

I dip dyed a set of curtains for my bedroom in an aqua blue. And though the micro-fiber fabric I happened to have did not take to the dye as well as I would have liked, the process was fun and quite simple. Bucket + dye + dip + dry and you're done!

I then started rummaging through all the bits and pieces of vintage jewelry I've taken apart over to years to create a new line of jewelry (coming to etsy soon I promise!). I also managed to squeeze in a few blissful hours of work on a few new paintings to replace the ones I've sold (thank you!).  And though I couldn't stay away from my trusty laptop for long, it felt nice to be hands-on and immersed in creating all day long. Hope you all have a chance to get your hands just a little bit dirty this week as well...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Well Traveled Vintage [Sasha Maksutenko]

Happy Monday readers!! I am a bit of a vintage fiend, and though usually I like to be the finder, scouring thrift stores, sifting through bins of throwaways hoping to uncover that amazing piece that someone thoughtlessly discarded, I have to admit, sometimes it's nice to have someone else do the sifting for you. Well that is exactly what Sasha Maksutenko has done, and sure shop is filled with only the best vintage finds...
She has an amazing eye for vintage jewelry and all things gold, oversized and ornamented. I've picked some of my absolute favorite pieces that seem to channel ancient textiles from all over the world. When it comes to jewelry, I love anything gold and chunky with a touch of color. One of these pieces would be a perfect way to turn a plain T and pair of jeans into a one-of-kind outfit...

Mrs. E just snatched up that killer gold and black piece [and I can't wait to see how she styles it!] but there is much more where that came from my friends so you better get on over there and find the one trashed piece destined to be your treasure...Enjoy!

p.s. check out my brand new ad button over on my side bar created by the uber talented Amy of Strataflora. Thanks, Amy you are insanely good!

Love it / Live it: Jagged Edge [Holger Kalberg]

Happy Thursday my friends! It's been quite a week for me so I have to say I'm quite pleased that the weekend is fast approaching. With all the changes happening in my life my emotions have been all over the board and my stomach is starting to feel like artist Holger Kalberg's fractured abstractions...

I love the gorgeous blues and greens, I could live in this palette everyday, all it needs is a little gold...enter these stunning rock necklaces from Nallik (great find Erin!). I love the asymmetrical cuts and gold casings, now the only question is which one to choose...Enjoy!

My Daylight 5.30.11

Well happy Holiday Monday everyone! Hopefully this post finds you on a relaxing mini-vacay of some kind, with all your worries far away. I myself will be working today but I took a little time this weekend to revisit one of my loves, jewelry making. I've been so in love with agates and rocks lately in decor that I wanted to add them to my jewelry collection as well...

Creating jewelry is one of the many endeavors I'm diving into again in the coming months and I'll be sharing the creative process with all of you along the way. I plan on relaunching my etsy shop with a slew of handmade goodies soon but in the mean time, if you like what you see, shoot me an email (laurafburkhart@gmail.com) and I'll hook you up with a special discounted price :) I hope you had (and are still enjoying) a long weekend filled with relaxation, rejuvenation and loving company...Enjoy!

Colored Daylight 5.20.11

Happy Friday friends! We've had the most amazing week here in Seattle and the sunshine has injected a healthy dose of Vitamin D in me. I'm so inspired I can't wait to jump into some incredibly exciting little projects. I recently stocked up on canvases and paint and will be spending any time I'm not out enjoying the sun this weekend inside painting for a show at The Ridgeback Cafe in July. I can't wait to dive in and start mixing my palette, I'm thinking some rich emeralds and shocking yellows are in order...

I am also in the initial works of a fun jewelry project with fellow artist of Tuesday shop and cannot wait to share it with all of you! So stay tuned and enjoy your weekend, here's hoping it's brilliantly colored and filled with sunshine..Enjoy!

Colored Daylight 5.13.11

As some of you may have noticed, blogger was completely down for about 24 hours and in the mean time deleted some posts, errr! Anyway I just wanted to re-post this in case any of you missed it, a little color therapy for your weekend.

In soothing blue-greens, two of my biggest inspirations: Andy Warhol who's work always helps to lighten things up a bit and keeps me from taken life too seriously, and Kelly Wearstler, a true artist and designer, (one of her stunning mood trays) Wearstler is a constant inspiration to me, always creating her own furniture and designing fabrics she continues to produce work that is uniquely her in a big way...
Lastly a shot of my jewelry in the same gorgeous palette. I always see an outfit as a blank canvas and a chance to be creative and one of my favorite ways to brighten up on an otherwise grey day is to pile on the brights...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Kristine Moran

Well hello sunshine! We've got blue skies here and even if it lasts for a day I'm going to make the most of it. There is sort of a mutual understanding around here that when the sun comes out you drop whatever you were doing and plan to be outside. We all need our Vitamin D, right? And this painting by Kristine Moran is the perfect inspiration today, fragments of light breaking up sharp edged brush strokes...

And you know I can't get enough of all things rocks lately so I'm absolutely smitten with these necklaces from UNEARTHEN. I would love to mix and layer them and the gold cast one is just stunning. Hope wherever you are today the sky is blue and you're seizing the day with gusto...Enjoy!
